How it works
There are two types of gas hot water systems:
Storage – Water is continually heated inside a tank with a gas burner
Continuous – A burner is ignited only when water is needed, so it doesn’t require a tank
Benefits of a gas hot water system
- Gas can heat the water faster than electric systems, so it doesn’t require as much energy and you can benefit from reduced energy bills
- Gas systems produce less emissions, so you can reduce your carbon footprint
- Gas heats water fast, so you can be sure to have access to hot water when you need it
Drawbacks of a gas hot water system
- You must have access to gas for this to be a viable option
- Must be installed outside, otherwise venting is required if installed inside
- The use of LPG gas can mean higher operating costs
